LIFT A GLASS TO HOMEBREWERS!
May 2, 2008
SOME OF OUR BEST FRIENDS ARE HOMEBREWERS! In fact all of our “professional” brewers (Brian, Dave, Charlie and Stu) began their careers by brewing their own recipes at home. We are lucky to have a pretty organized bunch of homebrewers (is that an oxymoron?) in the St. Louis area with the St. Louis Brews (check out their website at www.stlbrews.org) and the Garage Brewers (www.garagebrewers.com) out here in St. Charles County. And hundreds of other homebrew clubs exist all over the US – and you can find one close by at www.beertown.org/homebrewing/listings. SATURDAY IS NATIONAL HOMEBREW DAY and the Garage Brewers are hosting Big Brew Day at the O'Fallon Brewery. They'll bring their equipment and set-up on the parking lot and begin brewing around 10 a.m. At noon we'll have a celebratory toast simultaneously with homebrewers across the country and by four they'll be cleaning up. The public is welcome to by and visit with them and learn a little more about their craft. ST. LOUIS BREWERS HERITAGE FESTIVAL is May 9 and 10 at Forest Park. This is the biggest and best beer fest in the area and features all the amazing beers that are produced in and around our town – you'll be surprised at the number of styles and flavors. Find more information and buy your tickets at www.stlbrewfest.com. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO IRON BARLEY! Saturday the 10th marks five years of fine food and great beer in south St. Louis. To celebrate join them for Maifest and a big brunch, followed by a bus trip to the Heritage Festival and more good food and beer at Iron Barley upon your return. For details go to www.ironbarley.com. STILL LOOKING FOR SOME PAPPY PORTER? I’m told that a few retailers still have some of the spring 2008 release of O’Fallon Whiskey Barrel Smoked Porter (the one aged in the 23-year-old Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrels). Call ahead to make sure they still have a few bottles: Hampton House of Liquors Whole Foods Macklind Avenue Deli Wine Merchant Clayton Wine & Cheese Place Clayton Dierberg's Deer Creek Dierberg's 79 Crossing Dierberg's West Oak HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, enjoy a good beer and let's all make the world a better place, one beer at a time.
