IT’S (ALMOST) THAT TIME OF YEAR TO CELEBRATE BEER!
March 28, 2008
WHILE WE’RE IMPATIENTLY WAITING FOR SPRING (yes, we have a wind chill advisory in O’Fallon this morning!), we’re distracting ourselves by getting ready for “beer festival” season, which cranks up in April and goes until around the middle of October. Nice weather brings not only birds and flowers, but lots of opportunities to enjoy good beer. I’ll do my best to keep you advised throughout the year of upcoming beer events, several of which are coming up soon: April 11-12: International Beer Festival (Peoria, IL) (http://www.jaycees.com/projects/ibf/ibf.htm) April 26: Parkville Microbrewery Festival (Kansas City, KS area) (http://www.parkvillemo.net/parkvillemo/events.jsp) May 3: Big Brew Day at the O’Fallon Brewery Each year on the first Saturday in May, homebrewers unite non-brewing and brewing friends and family to celebrate National Homebrew Day, joining with thousands of homebrewers from around the world in brewing the same recipes and sharing a simultaneous toast at noon Central Time. For the last several years, we’ve hosted our local homebrewing friends who’ve gathered on our parking lot to brew and visit and taste their homebrew. This you’re invited to join us from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. to share a toast and meet some of the most passionate folks about beer in town. May 9-10: St. Louis Heritage Beer Festival in Forest Park (St. Louis, MO) (http://www.stlbrewfest.com/) Year two of what’s sure to become a classic St. Louis event featuring beers produced in and around the St. Louis area. AND they’re looking for volunteers interested in being cheerful beer pourers who get a free ticket to a session, a t-shirt and a food voucher! Volunteers must attend a training session in advance and will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Email or call Volunteer Coordinator Michael Grace at mgrace@liftforlife.or or 314-436-2337. LOOKING FOR A NEW PLACE TO ENJOY A 5-DAY IPA ON TAP? Look no further than O’Connell’s Pub (4652 Shaw at Kingshighway) where Tony tapped their first fresh keg of our most popular draft beer on Tuesday. If you haven’t tried it yet, O’Fallon 5-DAY IPA is a dry-hopped American Style India Pale Ale (that means we add dry whole hops to the finishing tank so the beer rests “on top” of the hops for five extra days). Perfect with an O’Connell’s burger! HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND and enjoy a good beer -- and let’s all try to make the world a better place one beer at a time. Cheers! Fran Caradonna O’Fallon Brewery
